Poem 2126

sepia photos
imagine me a young man
destroyed in his war.

beekeeper’s jars
changing the gold
of the light within.

between towns
the immense starlight
around, before us, ahead.

Near her term
leaves falling
past the lace curtains.

Bringing the hula
out of the coconut palms
pacific island breeze.

In the way of the ancients
sailing in the Aegean
blue with sky.

Ionian whales
the waves from their dives
coming to meet us.

Sailing solo
I find the waves glow green
in moonlight.

The ship’s funnel
its shade comes aboard
the sun deck.

Bright glinting waves
before I squint
… glint more after.
