Zen Haiku

Poem 937

On sea breezes …
until dusk
brings the gulls home.

Beach hermit
combing the small lost change
of children.

In the sand dunes
sounds of a beach party
we cannot see.

Migrating geese ,
out of dawn
waves reach the shore.

The children wade …
leaving us alone
where the seagulls cry.

Garden sundial
a moment taken
by the shadow of a bird.

Cliff face
the hawk heaves out to
the surface of air.

Beside the sundial
my arm under Laurel
cramped with sleep.

Sundial garden
winter tightens
the apple tree skins.

Your over-sea’s trip
I think of the shadows
moving over you.
