before joggers…
sandpipers chasing waves
to a retreat

the theatre cleaner
rubs over
last night’s applause

mangrove tide
a silent movie
surrounds the strutting heron

twilight fades
feeling insomnia
begin to worry

out of school
the same hail dents
in mum’s old car

late afternoon
the magpie songs fade
the garden sundial too

a beach stroll
the crab claws
just under foot

late afternoon
in the hole of a fallen eucalypt
her daughter

where all the paths meet

in the Koi pond
the perishing food
of leaves
