Starlight campfire
the near sound of horses
shuffling for warmth.

School holidays
scattered on the table
their rushed breakfast.

REM
yet sleep softens each fall
of her breast.

Southern Aurora
the ship’s cat
stepping more lightly.

New year
finding rust gathered
in the widower’s car.

A warm barn
out of the sudden storm
onto her straw breasts.

Girls picking tea
their rustling saris
silky as their songs.

Damn binoculars
the race horse losing
in both lenses.
