the stones of the stream
becoming ice.

Forest breeze
the sudden affinity
of a shared breath.

winter’s end
the plum trees bloodied
in hail.

midday heat
out of the stone well
tastes of the earth.

without a bucket
a well dropped
stone.

bridge traffic
moving beyond me
the honk of the geese.

coming home
your portrait hangs with
all his sketches of you.

cactus plants
daddy pruning
my needle stings.
