Poem 1216

Holiday resort
sunburns in the mirror
sending Laurel home.

In the dam’s mirror
migrating geese cry out
where the houses were.

Laurel leaves the room
a single rose stem
against the mirror.

In the mirror
the hedge our gardener
shapes like a wall.

Broken mirror
the boy’s horror
in his shattered face.

Landing crow
suddenly ruffled
her white silk kimono.

Marble hail
on the path to the post box
her red silk kimono.

The apes chase, flea search
beg for nuts in the long game
to please behind bars.

Home renovations
my husband discovering
another woman’s letters.

Fallen nest
a sudden sadness
to the stooping child.
